This blog was created in November 2022 after our church began an Advent series called "Reflecting the Sacred." The introductory sermon included this benediction from our pastor:

When you see lights twinkle

When you capture a reflection in a mirror

When you notice the sunlight dancing on a surface

Or a nightlight glowing in the darkness,

Let these be signs that the Christ light

Is revealed again and again

In and through this world.

Go into the world and know

That your brilliant presence

Is pouring more light into a weary world.

God loved us by becoming us.

You don’t even have to try… just be.

For you are already

Reflecting the sacred.

I had just finished a course at the Center for Action and Contemplation on The Franciscan Way. I learned a lot and, as soon as the class was over, I wrote down my top ten take-aways. #1 was: "The whole world is sacred. Everything is holy. Everything is sacred. Everything imparts God's grace. We are all living tabernacles. Creation - the natual world -- is our first and final Cathedral."

I'm not an expert in these matters but, buoyed by the class, our Advent series, and a love of poetry and photography, I decided to keep my heart and eyes open to seek the sacred, that of God present in all things. This blog is my attempt to create a journal of the things and people I find along the way -- and the things others may find along the way too. I'd like to think that compiling them here together can help us build a collaborative map of that first and final Cathedral.

If you, Gentle Reader, find something along the way that you would like to share, please contact us at reflectingthesacred@gmail.com.

Thank you.
