Teacher
FIELD NOTES (NOV '23)
I was recently asked to lead a team at my church and I felt very unsure of myself. I experienced some anxiety while trying to decide whether to accept this role or not. How could I lead when I was still such a novice??
But I prayed on it and sought discernment from God on whether I could serve him well from this place of uncertainty. As I opened up the Bible Hub app to seek guidance, I found the below devotion which I think provides hope for all who try to learn how to live in this world. Moses, too, was uncertain in the Wilderness and asked God to show him the way. God is a patient and willing teacher to all who ask.
Bible League: Living His Word
If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you.
God was pleased with Moses. We know this because God chose Moses to lead His people to the Promised Land. Although Moses was not perfect, God revealed Himself to Moses at the Burning Bush and He revealed His plans for him. God is pleased with us as well. We know this because God has chosen us for the tasks He has for us. Although we are not perfect either, God revealed Himself to us and He is revealing His plans for us.
Given His favor, we may expect something from Him. We may expect that He will do something for us like He did for Moses.
What we may expect is that God will teach us His ways. We may expect that when we pray to God to lead us and guide us in accordance with His plans for our lives He will answer our prayers. He will teach us the way He wants things done. We will not have to wander aimlessly through life wondering if we are doing the right thing or not. God will make sure that we receive proper instruction in His ways from the Bible (Psalm 119:105) and from the more personal forms of guidance He gives us (Psalm 32:8).
When He does this for us we will learn more about Him. We will learn what He is like and what He expects from people in general and from us in particular. We will come to know Him personally. We will have a personal two-way relationship with Him. He will be real to us, not just a philosophical or theological concept. We will make our way through life with the confidence that our God cares enough to enter into a personal relationship with us.
When God teaches us His ways we will continue to find favor with Him. God sovereignly decided to show us His favor in the first place and when we are taught His ways our obedience to them will only increase His favor. He will show His favor and goodness by continuing to help us accomplish the things He wants us to accomplish and by continuing to instruct us and guide us in His ways.
God is pleased with you. You may ask Him for instruction in His ways so you will know Him better and continue to find favor with Him.
